Playground

Hollow

melon seeds and bittersweet
and honeysuckle on the vine
the black breadth of a soaring crow
meets the pale blue of the sky
there behind the playground wall
i drew a poets heart on my sleeve
and through the din of roaring laughter
i knew that you should leave

bless the flowers who would dare laugh at the sun
let’s laugh forever
let’s dance forever
let’s be forever…together in my playground

twain, rimbaud, and nietzsche
and a life measured in red wine
the torrid tatters of this broken dream
have wings but will not fly
and there inside my candle-lit room
there’s a wine glass filled with regret
while mesmerized by the amber light
i must hope it’s not over yet

bless the flowers who would dare laugh at the sun
let’s laugh forever
let’s dance forever
let’s be forever…together in my playground

daisies blue, emerald skies
doctor says he can fix these eyes
i’m afraid that might change the way i see you
you’re so beautiful to me now…
let’s laugh forever
let’s dance forever
let’s be forever…together in my playground
